A combined Westfield and Highfield team finished their National Cadet league campaign in
second place after 4 exciting but very long days of play. The first 2 days last autumn decided
their division with the second 2 days playing off for final places in division 1.
The team of Tor West Ley, Bart Koszyk, Darsh Gopal and Ayush Shah played with spirit and
determination especially when Tor was unavailable for the final day meaning there was no
rest for any player. Each day consisted of matches against the other 5 teams. After day 3,
we were in second place and sustained this during day 4, finishing a very well deserved
second with scores of: a win against Forum B 4:2; another win against Draycott 5:1; a loss
to Milton Keynes, our nearest rivals for second, 4:2; a reassuring win against Highfield 1:5 ,
finally, a draw against the champions, Forum A, with every player achieving success in one
game and all the others going to 5 ends– a very close affair!
Well done to the players who started their day’s play at 9am and did not finish until 8pm –
justly rewarded with their silver medals.
Individual results over the final 2 weekends were: Ayush 13 wins out of 16; Tor 6 with wins
from 8 games; Darsh 13 wins from 18 and Bart 11 from 18 games.
Many thanks to Highfield for hosting a well-managed event and to all the parents and
supporters who came along.
