The same team of Ben Aldridge, Alex Elsom and Adam Koszyk travelled to Birmingham for day 3 of National Junior League.

Cheslyn Hay Tigers were our round one opponents, and we made short work of the match, winning 6-0 and only dropping one leg in the process! An excellent start.

Round two and our opponents were Birmngham 4. Another good performance and another 6-0 win, although Ben did find Roan Paul's style awkward, and had to dig deep to win 12-10 in the fifth!

Round three and our opponents are Colebridge C. First game saw Ben against Colebridge number two Hong Kit Ng (who proved to be a real handful). Ben was trailing 2-0 and 10-6,  but some well executed points saw him level at deuce and then take the next two points to win the end. This gave Ben renewed energy and belief, and he won the next two ends 11-5, 11-8 for a great win. Alex had his own five-end battle, this time being pegged back from 2-0 to 2-2, but he managed to compose himself in the fifth for a fine win. Adam was on game three and he, like Ben, had to battle back from 2-0 down. He did so with some great play, which saw him ease through 11-9 in the fifth. Three close games all going Westfield's way. Ben and Alex both won their secind matches, but Adam found Hong Kit Ng too strong and went down 3-0. A battling 5-1 kept us at the top of the table.

Round four and we are up against the the Lillington 'Giants'. In all my years of table tennis, I have never seen a team full six foot (plus) juniors! Morgan Page proved the star man for Lillington, using his deadly backhand to beat both Adam and Alex. Ben was untroubled for his two wins.

The final round of the day saw us against Birmingham 3, who were a decent team. At this point Alex and Adam were starting to feel the effects of their earliers efforts and both struggled. Adam did managed to pick up one point but Alex drew a blank. No such worries for Ben, who cruised to a brace. Final result 3-3.

There were some great performances during the day's play, and for Ben to remain undefeated was very impressive. Roll on Day 4.

A member of the Club has generously donated a large collection of table tennis bats, blades and rubbers, which we are looking to sell at very reasonable prices. We are holding an equipment sale next Thursday (9th December), and you are welcome to come along, see if there is anything of interest, and 'try-before-you-buy'. We will be accepting card and cash payments. Sale starts at 7.30pm. Look forward to seeing you all on the 9th.

Day 1 - Saturday 16th October
The Westfield trio of Ben Aldridge, Alex Elsom and Adam Koszyk travelled to Birmingham to play the first round of National Junior League.
Round 1 saw them play Birmingham Academy 3. Ben and Alex both won twice, and Adam won his second match after losing a close five-ender in his first.
Round 2 was against Cheslyn Hay Tigers. Again, Westfield ran out 5-1 winners, with Ben and Adam wining two apeice and Alex picking up the single.
Colebridge B were our opponents in Round 3, and werre much stronger opposition. Colebridge were 5-1 winners, with Aex picking up a consolation win in game 6.
Round 4 and Westfield were back on the wining trail, this time against Birmginham 4. Alex, Ben and Adam all picked up two wins to run out 6-0 winners.
Last round of the day was against a very strong Lillington A. Ben was the only player able to pick up a leg, as Lillington showed their class and ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Day 2 - Saturday 27th October
The same trio of players returned to Birmingham for Day 2 of NJL. This time we were placed into Division 2. With six teams in the division, there were fice rounds of matches.
Round 1 saw us play Birmingham 3. This was the second time we had played this team, and this time we went one better and won 6-0.
Round 2 was against Birmingham 2, who justified their higher ranking and ran out 4-2 winners. The result was not a fair reflection of the match, with a lot of close ends that didn't go our way.
Next up Lillington B, who ran out 6-0 winners. Again, some ecellent table tennis was played without reward.
Round 4 saw us play Cheslyn Hay Lions, and again, another battling display by the boys but for no reward, Cheslyn running out 6-0 winners.
Our last round was against Bronsgrove, who arguably had the two best players in the division, if not the league. Afer so many close games and six hours of table tennis, all three boys were showing signs of fatigue. Alex managed to keep it together for his last match and won 3-2 to pick up a consolation point.

Pictures of the result sheets can be found below.

The boys have been a pleassure to coach, and special menton should also go to Gabriela Koszyk who volunteered to umpire throughout the day.

On Sunday 21st November, the cadet team of Ben Aldridge, Adam Koszyk and Shivam Gopal represented Westfield TTC in the National Cadet League at the Sycamore Club in Nottigham. Each player contested 2 games per match.

They started off their campaign against Nottigham with a well-earned 6-0 win. The next match against Peterborough Archway B was a tougher affair which they pulled back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3, with the players sharing the honours, winning one game each. Their third match was against West Bridgeford which they won 4-2 with Shvan winning 2, and Ben and Adam winning 1 apiece. Peterborough Archway C was their final opponent; this was another hard fought match resulting in a 3-all draw, again all players were victorious once.

Well done to Ben, Adam and Shivam!

The succesful first day left us second in the table agaisnt runaway leaders Peterborough Archway A who we will play on the second of the 4 day ocompetition in December.

Congratulations go to Ben Aldridge and Adam Koszyk on becoming County Cadet champion and runner-up (respectively). Ben and Adam both won their respective groups, then semi-finals to face eachother in the final. Adam started well, winning the first game, but a change of tactic from Ben saw him win the next three ends to win the match and lift the trophy.

With restrictions easing from next Monday (19th July), there will be no requirement to book into bubbles, so instead of booking a table, you just book yourself in to attend a session. There will be 30 slots available, which means the table tennis hall will be limited to 30 players and a maximum of 14 tables. Booking a slot is on a 'first come, first served' basis. You will also be able to turn up on the night and pay the Duty Manager (as we now have a card reader for contactless transactions), but please note that 30 is our absolute limit. If you arrive without having booked in and the session is full, you will not be able to play.

We also ask that face masks are worn when entering/leaving the venue, and when not playing. This is Club policy.

For reference, the Club will be open on the following dates.

Monday 19th July
Adults 7.30pm - 9.45pm

Thursdays (Jul 22, 29, Aug 5, 12, 19, 26, Sept 2)

League Play
Hopefully your team captain has been in touch to ask about your availability for league table tennis. If they haven't, then please chase them up, or contact me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you wish to be considered for a league team. I will need to know by Sunday 25th July
The Leisure Centre have now advised that they are unable to open on Bank Holiday Monday (31st May). This session has been moved to the following day (Tuesday, 1st June).
There are four tables available to book, but please note when doing so, the booking system will still show as Monday.
Any questions, please add a comment and we'll respond as soon as we can.
Many thanks.
